Soaker hoses clogging up?
We have some soaker hoses that are 4 or 5 years old. I've noticed that the water comes out mostly from the front end (connected to the hose), and comes out at a much slower trickle near the back end (where it is capped off).
My two questions are: what causes this, and more importantly can I fix the problem without going out and buying 8 new soaker hoses?
I am guessing that either dirt or mineral deposits from the water are clogging the pores in the hose.
Thanks in advance!
Mark

The downside of soaker hoses is that they can become clogged with soil and calcium from water. Hoses can be soaked in a descaler solution. Usually an annual soaking and cleaning of soaker hoses in vinegar and mold soap solution keeps holes open.
A couple times a season, flush hose with running water through hose with end cap removed. If mineral deposits are a problem, thee are drip irrigation filters available that can be installed and buried or covered over with mulch.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try soaking them in vinegar, and an occasional flush as well. If that doesn't work, it's time to get new soakers, preferably a type that won't clog.
Thanks again,
