Smile Organic Gardening

I am planning to start an organic vegetable garden. Does anyone have any helpful information ie: book, web-site that would be helpful to a beginner gardener/organic garden?

Thanks!

Hi Pennypincher,

You don't say where you live, but Eliot Coleman is the organic gardener whose knowledge got me started. He gardens in Maine, but if you could find dvd's of a show he did on the Learning Channel called 'Gardening Naturally', they are wonderful. He also has written many books that you can probably find in the library. He has fantastic info on crop rotation as well. At the second site is a simple drawing of his crop rotation on page 11. Lots of helpful info there too.

You don't say what your level of gardening experience is so I'm going to guess that you have done some gardening. With that said, some of these sites are more technical then others so some may seem like a repeat for you. Keep the ones you like or hold on to all of them for later reference.

I would say one of the most important aspects that contribute to organic gardening is feeding the soil. Feed the soil and you feed the plants. I've found that compost, compost tea and other organic amendments are invaluable for that. Start with a soil test at your local extension service of what is needed and go from there. Here's some sites to get you started.
