Pheonix Date palm?

I have a few of these Pheonix reobolini date palms in my back yard and a few in my front yard. I know by nature they grow slowly, but the ones in my back yard where the soil is very clay heavy they have hardly grown at all. the ones in the front where the soil is a little looser seem to grow better. They have been in the ground for almost 2 years now. Is there anything that i can do to increase the growth rate of these palms.

Thanks in advance for the help.

The only solution that comes to mind would be to add lots of compost to the soil or dig them up, add compost to the entire planting area and replant. If the roots are restructed by poor soil, only improving the soil would be the solution.
