How much light - starting seeds indoors

I'm planting a couple sets of seed indoors (mostly flowers) to get a early start this spring. I have a standard seed starter kit with the plastic dome and soil plugs.

Question.. how much light do I need to provide for the seeds/seedlings? I have a growing stand and a couple plant lights I can dedicate to the seeds. I don't want to provide too much but also not too little.

Thank you!

What kind of flowers? Where did you get the seeds from?

Seedlings need lots of light. You will want to place seedlings by a window with a southern exposure. This may not provide enough light. The spring sun is not up as long as the summer sun. Too, the sun does not shine every day. An artificial grow light can be used on cloudy days and at night. Seedlings need 14-16 hours of light/day. You will want to rotate plants every couple of days so that all sides get equal light. Some hang a fluorescent light over seedlings at about 4".
