when making a raised flower bed against the brick house should you line something between the brick and dirt?

With all the problems reported here about wet basements and crawl spaces and the need to slope soil away from foundation so water can drain away from the structure, placing a raised bed against the house can be risky.

Lawn should slope about 6" for every 10 feet for the best drainage. Water around foundation or concrete slab can freeze and cause them to break. Water can run down foundation walls or over sill plate and into basement. From the standpoint of gardening, heat and light refracted off the house can put plants at risk.
