Will nails kill a tree?

My husband and son are building a tree house. They are planning on hammering 8 inch nails into the tree. Will this kill the tree? Please tell me how you know. Thanks!

no it won't

how do I know? I built a treehouse about 35 years ago and the tree is still going strong.

as long as you do not "ring" the tree, fluids will still flow up and down the trunk.

They won't kill the tree, but nails have been known to kill those trying to cut trees down with nails in them.

Just remember if you ever take the treehouse down to tag the tree as having nails in it.
