Compost + pine needles + wood ashes

(I was hoping to amend my previous composting post, but it seems to have gone missing...)

New compost pile (yeah!). We have tons of pine needles which are acidic, but unfortunately it's the only yard waste we have right now. I understand that pine needles take awhile to break down and can make the compost acidic. I read that wood ash is alkaline, but not to use too much in a compost heap. However, if I have a bunch of pine needles I want to compost, will the wood ash help neutralize the pile?

Thanks again!

The wood ash will help, all of this depends on what ph you are trying to achieve.
