Boil water, pour it on the weeds.

You know what happens to vegetables when boiled.

Good morning,

Kobuchi's reply is the best in terms of "inexpensive",and is great if you are trying to eliminate a single weed or two, but if you wish to spray a larger area, use vinegar. (If you spray boiling water, it is no longer boiling )

Do be very careful when spraying vinegar as it's non-selective and will kill any plants you spray it on.

Most weed killer recipes are some variation of the following:
  • 1 gallon white vinegar<LI ZbADQ="0" eh_1s="0">1 cup of table salt
  • 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap
As indicated, proceed with caution as the solution will be nonselective. If concerned re: getting solution on desirable plants, brush or dab on with cloth. If concerned about sterilizing the soil with the salt, skip the salt.

Of course, you can manually remove weeds or keep them cut down. With persistence, you will prevent the growth of foliage. The plant will not be able to photosynthesize and manufacture food for the roots and will eventually die.
