Is my Bradford pear tree weird?

I got ten-year old bradford tree.

But at this spring, it did not bloom and does not have any
leaves. It still has buds. I check the branches and they are
still soft and wet. I did not do any trimming last year.

Any one knows why this is happening?

Thanks,

SZ from Dallas

A Bradford Pear is a short-lived tree, with a lifespan of up to 15 years. It may be that it is dying.

Late cold snap with frost or freeze can take a toll on buds and blooms. Think bad to weather conditions just before trees were scheduled to bloom.

The tree does not look that old or large and used to look
healthy every year.

I hope it can still recover.

Thanks,

SZ, do you see anything oozing from the trunk or any mushrooms at the base of the tree? Take a look at these sites to see if the symptoms fit.

Pear Decline

Nectria Canker

Leucostoma Canker

Let me know if any of that looks like anything you see.
