all I am looking for is a Hoe

hello,
I've been looking to buy a heavyweight hoe.
The only ones I've seen is these really flimsly light weight ones!

When I was a kid (bear with me) my grandfather used to turn over soil using a garden hoe, but this thing was pretty heavy, so it made tilling soil much easier.
With these lightweight things hardly scratch the surface.
I have a picking mattoc, and that works great, but at a 2 in with, it would take me forever to prepare soil for gardening!
anyone have any ideas on what I should get?
I don't really want to get a rototiller, I think it's more than I need.

any help is appreciated.

thank you.

life begins when the kids leave home and the dog dies.

You might consider a digging fork for turning a garden. I find that it is less work than the hoes of old.

Go to a real hardware store that is affiliated with Ace,True Value etc.

ALL of these stores have access to a wide variety of hoes including ones that are heavily made etc.I know for a fact that Ace does stock many varieties.

While the store itself may not carry these in stock,it is a quick and easy process for the store employees to order one for you and have it there with a few days at most.

Ace stores typically get deliveries twice a week and can access the current stock of the warehouse that supplies them, see if the item you want is in stock there and order it for you on the spot to be added to the next delivered order to that store. This is available nationwide and I have done this litterally hundreds of times myself.

I remember the kind you are talking about. My dad had one. Hoe with a round hole cast on the top. Took a round handle about the size of a baseball bat. Heavy. Wish I knew where it was. I think I'll look next time I visit Mom. Good luck with your search.

thanks,
from looking online, the closest thing is a "Grub Hoe" (aka Azada)Ace can't get it.
I did find a place that sometimes has it.
I'll check in periodically at that store.
I thought about ordering it, but I would rather physcially see it to check if I feel it would work for what I had in mind.
thanks again.

My wife gets every gardening catalog known to man. I will look this evening and see if I can find one like you are talking about and will repost.
