Foxtail Palm

I recently purchased a young foxtail palm 9about 1 foot in height) and was wondering under what conditions it will grow best. I plantrf it in a 5 gallon pot and have been watering it every other day. I live in Southern California, so freezing is no problem now. It is in full sun and well draining soil. please advise if this will work or any other suggestions you have.

Eventually i want to put it in the ground but will wait until it gains strength.

Thanks in advance.
