Sun flowers are fun!
And don't worry about what you do wrong or right in planting them.
Not sure where you live but just go to a store and pick up a mutipackage .etc teddy bear, giants, mexican
It's easy to plant them ,you stick your finger in the soil up to the second nuckle and pop the seed in and cover it over so the soil makes contact. Thats it .
They will do there best in full sun ,and as long as your soil isn't all sand they will grow like crazy!
Nice part about all types of sunflowers is ,once you have them ,you will always have tons of seeds(unless you let the birds eat them all)
Most times though seeds from a mature plant will not grow from seed again "true" meaning they mutate--but that can be fun too!
If you have any more questions just contact me .
have fun

Last year I picked two different types out of a bird seed mix and planted them. I just stuck them in the ground (no special prep.) and very one germinated. They were fun to watch grow and the birds loved the snack.
