Question

Our new house of 2 years has 4 blueberry bushes. The first year they were abundant, the second year, they were pewny and scattered. I guess I need to prune them? How do I do that and how often and what time of year? Should I cover them with something to protect them from the birds as well? How can we keep an abundant crop of berries each year? (I am a city gal - can ya tell?)

Blueberries need acid soil. Also, depending on what your winter was like could have affected them. Prune them in spring. You need both male and female plants in order to have fruit. Since you had fruit, it sounds like you do. A lite netting will protect them from the birds. Some years the fruit just isn't as good as others, and since your grape vines weren't good, I am wondering if your winter did some damage.
