Do you have any walnut trees near your dead spruce? I killed 4 trees before I figured out it was the leeching from the walnut tree roots. Now have planted a dward alberta spruce in my back yard and it has made it through the winter in great shape.

Dwarf Alberta spruce has an intense dislike of overwatering, overfertilization and shade. Due to their slow growth, overwatering and overfertilization can cause a 'sudden death' while not enough sun usually causes a relatively slower decline.
