I have a sweet gum tree that looks bad. Someone told me that it might have bores. The leaves are turning black on the ends. I can't see any bugs or anything on the leaves
or bark. The bark is very loose in spots..
any suggestions will help. I have an identical tree 30 ft away and it is doing fine. thanks keith

In order to treat the tree effectively you will need positive identification of the problem. Contact your local county extension agent. You will find them in the phone book in the government section under county. You can also contact a qualified arborist (tree doctor). Either one of these will be able to help you identify and recommend proper procedure.
