Question

I live in Fresno, CA and have a huge concrete patio that needs some shade. What would be a good container tree for a warm climate and grows quickly?

Thanks

Wink

Your zone which can mean colder nights plus the expanse of concrete you describe can be limiting factors in your choice of container plants. Also, bear in mind that trees which grow quickly are generally short-lived and are often classified as 'junk/weed trees'.

With that in mind there are some trees that will do the job but also to fill the bill for faster growth you might want to consider a shrub-type plant which is still capable of getting quite a bit of height. I could name some varieties but it won't do you any good if they aren't available in your area.

Check with your locally owned nursery (not big box store nursery) to see what varieties they have that will fit your needs and patio situation. They know their stock and can advise the best plant for the job. That way you can see the actual plant and take it home with you that day.
