We have several fruit trees. All are doing well but we have a plum tree that will not fruit. It has many blossoms but the fruit doesn"t come on. Can you give me a suggestion?

A couple of things come to mind.

First, your weather can affect fruiting. Santa Rosa, a well-known cultivar of Japanese type can be particularly shy about bearing in certain climates.

Rain, cool weather, or wind during blossom can reduce or eliminate bee working.

Most Japanese type require cross-pollination to set a crop. Most European type will set fruit with their own pollen but will produce better crops with cross pollination.

Since you did not say what variety you have, if weather or lack of bees is not a factor, I would venture to guess that you need a pollinizer.

Contact your local tree fruit supplier for recommended pollinizer for the variety you have or contact http://www.reeusda.gov/1700/statepartners/usa.htm. Click on your state, then county, then local office of your Cooperative Extension Service. They can also tell you what you need for a pollinizer. If you do not know what variety you have they should be able to help you identify it if the tree has produced any fruit at all.
