Getting Rid of Mint

Hi all,
I have a large planter that's been taken over by mint. I've now dug out the whole planter and pulled all of the mint plants and runners. My question is: is this good enough? If I miss a piece of runner, will it regrow and eventually take over again? How about the little hairlike rootlets? I'd like to avoid replacing all the dirt if possible.

Thanks!

Dig out what you can, and prepare the roundup herbicide for spring. Herbs tend to be quite invasive.

I bought my mom a pot of mint a few years ago, and I couldn't believe how many pots she has of it now. Mint is a pretty easy herb to grow then, huh? My mom wishes basil is as easy to grow as mint.
