Rubber mulch

I got tired of replacing the mulch around my foundation plantings every year or two. This year I installed a rubber mulch (chopped up tires) sold by Vigro. It's advertised as lasting up to 12 years.

Now I'm concerned about the smell. I get a light whiff of "au de goodyear" on a really hot day. Has anyone any experience with this stuff? Will the smell go away?

Well...I had some of those tree rings made of rubber...and, no, it never completely went away.

Have noticed it at some fast food places as well...

No experience with mulch but I take my daughter to a lot of playgrounds and the ones with old tires do still smell like tires on hot days

The smell of heated rubber beats the smell of rotting, wet, hot pine bark IMO. And it doesn't have to be replaced as often as pine bark.
