Huge evergreen bush!! Arborvietum sp? Can I trim extensively?

I moved into my small home on a lake last year. It has been a rental for many years and there is absolutely NO landscaping or gardening but there are 3 HUGE bushes next to the house that dwarf it. I had two of them removed but cant afford to have the other three taken out.

What I'm wondering is if I can try to cut them to look more like trees by cutting off the bottom branches?

They are about 9 or 10 feet tall. They're not Cedars, more like an Arborvietum sp.? but they don't have red berries.

This is my first post so I hope I haven't blundered on the wrong forum.
Thank you, Meg.

Yes, you can prune them. In fact, fall and winter are the best times.
Or - - - -you can invite some deer to come by. They will give them a good "pruning" as they love arborvitae.

I have the same problem. Thank you for the information. I will take a look and see if I can find it.
