Pyracantha

Hello -

Has anyone tried to train Pyracantha to grow up deck rails?? If so can you share your experieince and any tips you found?. I intend on trying this to create a "faux" wall between my deck and back alley.

Thanks!

I don't know about deck rails, but many moons ago in a previous residence I had one going up one end of the house where I had attached some wires for support. You know they have some nasty thorns, right?

Yep, I know they have some big thorns. I was going to train it to go up the outside of the rail. Im not concerned with someone rubbing up against it, as it is on the far end of the deck and would create privacy when fully trained from the alley behind my house.

I think it will probably train up the post okay. Is it a sunny location? can't remember how shade-tolerant it is; the one we had was on the sunny side of the house.
