Need suggestions for backyard problem sandy area
Hi! I'm in S. Florida (zone 10) and have a problem area just outside the back patio where there is nothing but sand and can be described as just plain ugly. The lizards and geckos live there and love to play in the sand, digging holes and being a nuisance and if they're close to the door, will run inside when the door is opened. I don't have anything against these speedy little creatures, but I'd prefer it if they'd stay outside and build their homes a little further away from the house!
I'd like to plant some kind of moss or green ground cover; something that will grow in sand. Even something flowering would be nice. The area is partially shaded from the roof overhand in the morning but gets afternoon sun.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this troublesome spot?
It's not very large - about 5 or 6 square feet I'd say.
BTW - sod is not an option -- association rules! :NO NO NO:
Thanks for suggestions!

They will allow plants and flowers which would be the owner's responsibility, but I guess they don't want to cut the grass that close to the houses with those big riding mowers they use. There are shrubs along the grass line separating the grass from the sandy area I'm trying to fix.
