Low/Moderate Maintenance Fruit or Nut Tree?

I have a need in the yard for a tree of approximately 15-30 foot spread and 15-30 foot height (give or take) and relatively fast growing. I'd ideally like it to produce something edible as the tree will take the place of a longtime garden. However I don't want something super high maintenance that'll wither without constant attention. Not sure if such a thing exists...

I'm right on the boarder of 6b and 7a hardiness zone.

Fruit & nut trees in general are more maintenance than others. Peach and pear trees while nice may require spraying and then there's the problem of fallen fruit on the ground. If you don't keep them picked up they can be an eyesore, a twisted ankle waiting to happen and a hazard when mowing. A cherry tree might be an option.

Regardless of what type of fruit or nut tree, be prepared to feed all the wild critters in the area. Squirrels, raccoons, birds and deer will thank you for the feast.
