Topping Blue Spruce

Hi all, I need some suggestions for the best way to top a 20' blue spruce that is getting to tall for the location.

So-called "topping" of a tree usually results in killing the tree. If you MUST do it be sure to cut on a fairly steep angle and then seal the cut end. Otherwise the tree is almost guaranteed to rot from the top down.

Most are shaped like the classic Christmas tree, a triangle. Lop much of the top off and it will look ugly imo.

It will be tricky to make it look good. Why not cut it three feet from the ground and make it hedge-like and you can prune it to your taste. Probably you will end up pulling it out or cutting flush with the ground.
