I used to live in fla and I don't recall anyone ever trimming palm trees other than removing dead leaves/limbs.

Palm trees in NH?

Those are essentially seed pods. In a while they will split open and the seed tops or whatever will spread out. Pain in the butt either way to prune.

Will look something like this:

Exactly what I am looking at,you're right about a PIB to prune, what happens if they are not pruned? can I assume they will just keep getting larger.
P/S heading back to NH in 2 weeks ,can't stand the H&H any longer.

Well they split open and dangle for a while while either the "flowers" or the "nuts" dry out and drop off. After that they just hang there unless cut off. Eventually the area where they are attached to the trunk/head will rot off and they will fall, but that takes a good long while and can make for a fairly unsightly appearance. I have two palms in front and I periodically go at them with my pole saw. One of them has gotten fairly tall and is a pain, the other one not too bad.

Geo, you've been in SWF and didn't give me a call?
