Cool

Great news! I see little asparagus shoots emerging from my hard work. New Question. the directions say to wait until you see new growth and then fill in. Do I fill in around the new shoot or do I cover the new shoot.
thanks in advanced. You are a great help.

Asparagus

Asparagus should not be harvested in the first 2 years, then you just harvest half the clump. Bed should be kept weeded and watered. Don't dig or hoe around the plants as the roots are spread out. The shoots grow into tall ferns that may need support. Don't cut the ferns until dead in the fall. Then cut 1" about the ground and mulch in with manure or compost. There are many useful websites and gardening books which address asparagus. You local Dept. of Agriculture Extension Agent should be able to send you a free brochure on growing asparagus in your area. You might find http://www.sheepshank.demon.co.uk/gg/veg/asparagus/ a useful site.
