My dogwood tree has a split in the middle of it between two branches. I don't think it is all new, it looks partially healed (sorry, I'm not sure because its a new house for us) but the heavy snowfall this winter has made the split worse. I really would like to save the tree. Dosgwoods are very hard to grow around here and this one is 20-25 years old and gorgeous. Pruning is not an option because I would lose the top half of the tree. Can I wire it together somehow (probably wouldn't come together all the way..), what else can I do? Please help!!

Thank you

Damaged dogwood tree

I would call a professional for an opinion and possible medical care. It is sad to lose such an established tree. If the tree is split, its integrity has been compromised and it has opened itself up to disease and decay.
