I am a relatively novice gardener (I've grown a few tomato and pepper plants...) and I have a very small amount of space. On the side of my house, between the house and the fence, is my garden. It is a strip about 18 inches wide by about 15 feet long. The side of the house only allows a few hours of sun each day. Last year my tomato plants did very well, though. However, I was overzealous and planted WAY to many, and it was a big choked mess. This year I am limiting myself, so I want to make sure that the few plants I do plant will be successful. Besides 1 or 2 tomato plants, what else should I plant? Also, when should I start planting any of them? I live in Detroit by the way. Thanks.

Hi Dino,

What do you like??? That is a small garden. Do you have a spot that gets full sun for container gardening? You can grow tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and many others in pots.

You could start planting around May 15 to be on the safe side. That should be your last frost date.
