Trim these bushes??

I don't know what they're called, but can anyone offer any advice on how to keep these shrubs under control? I didn't realize how fast they were growing until I looked at a picture from when we first purchased our home three years ago. As you can see, in the "then" picture these shrubs are at least a foot shorter than the shutters. Now they are at least a foot taller.

They grow taller plus wider as time passes. I feel if I take any height off them they will lose their cone shape and look odd.

Thanks in advance.

Arborvitae. IMO, you should just replace them if you feel they are the wrong shape or size.

So I’m ok with their size right now, but looking at how much they’ve grown in the past couple of years I wonder if there is anything I should be doing to keep them from getting out of control.

Now that I know their name I can do some more research. Thank you.

If you like their size now keep them pruned to that size. Don't get lazy and let them go then try to bring them back down in size later.
