i would like to have new grass. im going to be planting alot of ground cover like lirirope, lenten rose , hostas, etc. im trying to limit the amount of grass i have to mow and the potential for weeds and poison ivy to set in. im planting around every tree and working my way out. im thinking of using plugs so i do not have to till my entire yard. my main concern is weed blocking. i have read about zoysia grass, but im really not sure what type of grass to select. al i see in hardware or home improvement centers are bags of seed. does anyone have any suggestions from dealing with this on their own lawns? thank you.

Zone7,
zoysia grass, once established, will be the thickest carpet of grass yuo have ever walked upon. However, I beleive it is primarily for full sun areas. If you are going to plant under larger trees, you will probably have to choose a shade tolerant type grass. If you go with the zoysia grass, you will have to spray the weeds which will pop up between the plugs.
