Crepe Myrtle pruning question
I do want my myrtles to grow as big as "nature" intended. I watched YouTube videos about crepe myrtle murder. I just don't understand, know, what to do with all the shoots that grow below the top cut off part.
I understand to let the shoots at the cut grow, let the new shoots grow 12 inches, select two snip off the rest, etc.
But what do I do with all the shoots growing below this area?. Do I snip off all the lower shoots growing along the trunk below where I'm going to let the new shoots grow?

Thanks I wasn't sure of the proper etiquette
, didn't know if I should start a new post or add to an existing one. I think I got it answered.

Yes, just cut off the "water shoots" and volunteers that pop up around the tree. If the tree is 8' tall or larger then you can spray about a half dozen shoots with glyphosate (RoundUp) instead of cutting them if you want. The root system of the shoots and main plant are connected so don't spray herbicide on 20 shoots around a small tree or you risk killing the parent plant as well but spraying a few shoots around a big tree is OK.
