Insect problem

I was moving my wife's two hanging (petunia?) baskets away from a wall, and was engulfed in a cloud of tiny insects. gnats, aphids? Not an entomologist just guessing. Need to know what I can spray the plants with safely these days?

I see that Ace Hardware and others carry a Rose and Flower insecticide from Ortho. I will try some of that

My guess is gnats. Are the plants damaged ? Is the Ortho contact spray or the systemic ?

If the bugs are gnats they likely are not hurting the plant. They could be a result of over watering or too frequent watering. There are some little gnat like bugs that live in moist soil. Allowing the soil to dry between waterings keeps them naturally in check.

Insects

As I remember Gnats are little brown buggers not pure white like these are. I got a bottle of Bayer Rose and Flower and it is a contact product. It got their attention when I coated the leaves today.

It killed a lot of them, but banging on the basket woke up a few more today. Gave them another shot. Watching the plants for damage.
