Pruning a Butterfly Bush

Hi.

A Butterfly Bush has become "wild and wooly", and I'd like to cut it back to something more under-control and visually appealing.

When? (in N.E. Ohio)
How little stem length can I leave?

Thanks

You can't kill it. I would follow normal pruning practices but you can prune heavily and it should bounce back next season.

I cut them back every fall to within an inch or two above the ground.

Thanks, eh?

I'm off to make "adjustments".
