Cherry tree bugs

Tree planted last yr and we have these bugs taking over. Not sure what they are or how to rid them .

Are they doing any harm? Most insects do not pose a problem and do not need any treatment.

Many top leaves shrivel up.

But are the insects doing any damage? And, you really need to identify what type insect they are before you can consider any kind of treatment.

They look like black cherry aphids. A strong spray from a garden hose on the bottom side of the leaves can remove many of the insects. As a step up you can treat with neem oil. Remember, the insects are on the bottom side of the leaves so that's were you need to focus your treatment.

Many communities have an agriculture extension office that will identify bug or fruit samples and offer suggestions for treatment.
