Hi, I planted a young maple tree late August 2020. Everything was well after plantation. I live in north east. Fast forward may 2021, it bloomed 2nd week of may. After 2 weeks it started to get stressed I assume from the hot and windy weather we have been having. I've been watering it every 3-5 days as it stared to look dry and brown leaves (see photos).I check the soil so that it is nor saturated so I assume i am not overwatering ( I hope). The soil seems semi moist after only 1-2 days after watering (slow for 45min). I dont know what's going on. This is the second tree that had issues in my front yard (I'm starting to think it is bad soil?). Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks
Guidelines that I received for a new tree included: Make sure the plant's roots are saturated before installing the plant and when watering ensure water penetrates soils to the depth of the root ball. Based on size your tree looks like it should get 8--12 gallons per application. The soil should be built up in a circle with a berm at the outside to contain the water. If 8-12 is too large and overflows then water 2-3 times each application to get full amount.
Water new trees every other day for first two weeks. Once soil is saturated limit watering to once a week. Watering schedule should be followed throughout the first full growing cycle (Spring-fall, late fall until freeze).
I bought a hose timer and set the schedule to automatically apply the water.
Also be aware that newly planted trees and shrubs take 3 years to establish: First year sleeps (recovery), second year creeps (roots spread), third year leaps (plant grows).
Thanks for the information. I just called the tree nursery and they advised me that the issue is it probably didn't get enough water going into the winter so in the spring with the hot weather the issue was already present. Seems to make sence. I will be going to see them to get further advice. Thanks
What's on the bottom 6" of the trunk? My first thought on looking at the photos is that it looks like it was planted about 8" too high.
And I think a good possibility with the leaves is herbicide drift from lawns getting treated... and everything stated previously is also a possibility.
Two years ago this was a potted 8' christmas tree. It grew like crazy. Lush, sticky green, smelled great. Two weeks ago when the weather turned hot, this happened. So afraid it is root rot. I'm hoping it was lack of water when the weather turned from may grey to early summer 90s and it will come back. Soil is looks moist but not wet, considered that moisture might be too shallow and need to aerate.

Hi all. I have zero experience with fruit trees.
I have this vacant backyard as you can see below, which I hope to turn into a fruit orchard.
What I need help with is to plan the orchard, in terms of the species of trees to plant, their ideal location, and number. I wish to have the maximum variety of fruits possible ripening more or less consecutively. I can spend at least five hours/week tending to the orchard.
Fruit from most desired to least desired:

Persimmon, fig, pomegranate, almond, hazelnut

strawberry, raspberries, grapes (for both grapes and leaves), pear, Italian plum, lemon

walnut, peach, apple

I know This may be asking for too much but it would be most helpful for me if someone could match the A-G spots in the figure below to the above trees. That is, please tell me what is the best candidate tree to be planted in each of the 7 spots shown in the figure.
Apart from that, some specific questions:

how to best use the narrow rectangle by the right-side fence where the sun sets? Can I grow berries there? sunflowers? grapes?

Do I have to get dwarf trees even if I can prune to keep the tree's size manageable?

Where would you set up trellises for grapes and sunflowers? The N, NE, SE fences or?

Can I grow any of the above-listed fruit in the sunlight-less space behind the garage?

Is it worth having a professional aggressively prune the large tree to increase sunlight? Currently, the yard gets about 4-5 hrs of direct sunlight.
THANK YOU :)
