Locust Tree just won't die

I had a locust tree taken down that was in my back yard last year. The crew got a lot of the big roots bu certainly not all of them. This year I have noticed that the tree roots are sending up sprouts all over the yard. I suppose this is Mother Natures revenge, but I just need to know if there is anything else I can do about this besides rent a root chipper and go after them all. The locust has has to be one of the filthyist trees out there lol

Should have used stump poison, since locust roots are hard to kill. IMO you need to use a paint brush to put stump poison on every sprout it sends up until you poison the entire root. Otherwise you will need a back hoe and a dump truck.

I disagree. I think they are perhaps one of the nicest trees that require very little maintenance other than keeping trimmed if close to a house. I just mow over any sprouts that pop-up. Never need to rake leaves and they seldom clog gutters. But to each his own.

cut it off just above ground level, use poison on the cut portion, then wrap it in black plastic and wrap tightly with a band. many invasive trees are killed that way so it should work. you may still have roots that sprout but keep pulling the roots out below ground level. I have some small locust trees and I don't mind them... they grow quickly and provide good cover and if trimmed back don't get too large.
