Help me grow potatoes from store bought

Its the middle of January here in Michigan. I have a bag of STORE BOUGHT potatoes. They are stored in the basement. They are starting to sprout. I know they say that some store bought potatoes are sprayed so they won't sprout. So if mine are sprouting does that mean they will grow in the garden? And, how can I slow down they're sprouting so they will be ok to plant in the spring? Or, what other advice do you have? Also, can potatoes be grown in shady mornings and partial sunny to sunny afternoons?

Store your potatoes in a cool/cold (not freezing) place with an apple. The apple emits a gas that retards sprouting. Keep the potatoes well away from onions. Onions emit a gas that encourages sprouting.

Potatoes, like all food/flower crops really need full sun. Any shading affects your final yield so the more sun the better.

Watch the Matt Damon movie "The Martian" to learn all you need to know about growing potatoes.

If your store bought potatoes are sprouting they will produce new potatoes.

Are you kidding about the apple and onion gas? That is amazing. So, does that work for sprouting any plant or just potatoes?

Ethylene is the magic gas that triggers a lot of things to ripen or go bad. This is why some things keep longer when stored with better ventilation to let the gas escape. Put an ethylene producing food with a ethylene sensitive food and it will trigger the sensitive food to ripen. Here is a link I found that lists which foods are which.

I wash it and dry it with newspaper (just make sure there's no moist)
