Killing a vine

Usually when I try to control viney type plants, I'll dig under with my little forked tool thingy to try and pull up as much of the root system as I can. A new kind popped up recently with thorns on it
There was two of them and one pulled out pretty easily and had a bulb attached. Have no idea what it is. The second one tho I can't seem to pull it out and even broke my tool trying. Is there any way to kill it without hurting anything else? It's under some azalea bushes.

I've heard painting just the cut stem with weed killer works well although I've never tried it.

I have used a disposable paint brush to paint the leaves with herbicide concentrate. I've also had luck cutting a vine and sticking the freshly cut end (the part attached to the roots) into herbicide so is draws in the poison.

Yes there is. 'South Philly herbicide'.

Make a nice osso bucco with pasta (your choice) for dinner. Find a large pot with a spout. Remember to lightly salt the water before you put the pasta in. Cook until the pasta is al-dente. Add some extra virgin olive oil on top and add fresh herbs to season the olive oil floating on the hot water. Use tongs to lift the pasta from the water and through the olive oil on top- that way you coat the pasta as you remove it from the pot. Optional- dip garlic bread into the 'oil slick' on top to capture all the herbs & olive oil.

You will be left with a pot of boiling hot-salty-starchy water. All that 'stuff' means the water boils at a higher temperature than 'plain' water. Use an oven-mitt, grab the pot handle, walk outside, and then slowly pour the boiling water onto the base of the offending plant. You will no longer HAVE that offending plant, because you've used the boiling water to COOK the offending plant.

I don't know if you're joking or not Hal_S lol, but the weed killer or herbicide sounds a lot easier.

Not joking, BUT humorously suggesting a pleasant way of generating the hot water to kill the weeds.

Pour boiling water onto a weed. You WILL kill the weed.
It is the classic way to kill weeds in the joints of a sidewalk.
Non-toxic, site specific, no after effects.
