outdoor electricity

We're landscaping our bare dirt yard by laying sod and pouring a patio. At some point in the future, we may wish to add a fountain. Is it acceptable to drop conduit lines into our already dug sprinkler trenches -- just to have it there?

Hello hunnydoer

Just a bit of a caution - there might be code restrictions on burying electrical cable, depending on where you are. You might want to check with local authorities about how deep and what type of cable/conduit and any other restrictions or additional protection needed meet code requirements.

At the very least, I think that you would want to create some sort of record (scale plan of the area with landmark references) so that you or subsequent owners could re-locate the cables before you dig...

You could also try posting your question on the 'Electrical' board of the 'Repair' Group - there are most likely some qualified electricians there who could offer their opinions.
