Question Japanese Purple Plum Tree?

My friend has a small tree that has somewhat burgundy bark,is about 3 inches in diameter on the trunk and has deep purple leaves. She calls it a Purple plum tree but when I ask for it by that name at the local nursery they have no idea what I am talking about. Has anyone heard of the small tree,or is there another name for it.
Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Sounds like Prunus cistena - Purple-leafed Sandcherry.
