I got a start of hydrangea and it has only 2 very tiny roots,do I need to try to get more roots by putting in water or can it be planted as is?? Thanks.

Hi Glennia,

I would put it in a pot with potting soil for awhile. Not sure just how long to tell you. Those first roots are called water roots. They're usually white and look a little like corn silk. You now need to grow it on to get feeder roots. Give it some seaweed fertilizer or root stimulator after you pot it up. Either put a plastic bag over the cutting, or mist it OFTEN until you see new growth.

If it were me, I'd leave it in a pot until fall.
