Tree pushing up sidewalk
I have a large tree with roots pushing up the sidewalk.
Of coure, I can cut the root.
However...
Two questions.
1) How do I prevent the root from growing under again?
2) Is there any "secret" to digging out the root from underneath
the sidewalk?

Root pruning
You did not indicate what species with which you are dealing. Root pruning is possible if the roots are not tap roots.
