Patio Gas Fireplace

We're kicking around the idea of building a patio fireplace.

One thought is a gas log, what are the general requirements for something like this. We have a gal line in the basement (Daylight) near where the fireplace would go, or the meter is around the corner outside!

The best thing to do is to look around and see what type of unit you want to put in. Some are mostly for show and don't need a lot of gas.

What I'm interested in knowing, is an outdoor line usually run from within the house with black pipe, copper? Or can I come off the meter and run an outdoor line!
