Question Can we remove upper oven in a double oven

We have a Roper double oven, it has one upper oven and one lower oven. We'd like to remove the upper oven because we want to increase the cook top space, we'd like to keep the lower oven if possible, because it works fine now. Did anyone ever do this before? Does anyone know that the upper oven and lower oven came in as one piece or two pieces, so that we can or cannot possibly disconnect the upper oven?

Your help is highly appreciated.

Hello chunnan and Welcome to our Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances forum.

The answer is yes. However, be sure all electrical wires are capped off as well as all gas supply to the upper oven.

However, depending on the model, some common parts may need to be altered, modified or replaced. A common part usuall requiring minor changes would be the appliance regulator.

Some appliance regulators have dual outlets, one for each oven. In that case, one outlet must be plugged off.

Off hand, this is not a commonly done task. Therefore, it may be wise to size up the situation prior to attempt the task.

Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problems may be in this type of alteration. Bring the make, model and serial numbers and stop in at the store.

The info will help to determine the potential problems and parts needed. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
