I use to repair gas appliances while working for a gas utility. We were trained to put a high temp. thermometer in the exhaust hose. As long as the temp. did not reach over 160 F degrees the thermostat was fine.

Hope this helps,

Hey,
You can put as high temp probe in the same location as the thermostat.Put a voltage testers leads across the thermostat and as soon as you have voltage the thermostat has opened.
The limit on the thermostat should be marked on it.

Cool

Hi all,

A copy from Brewer...

**You can put as high temp probe in the same location as the thermostat.Put a voltage testers leads across the thermostat and as soon as you have voltage the thermostat has opened.

An example:
Some common "how to Identify" the thermostat for replacement. Part # identification.

Example: LS3-135

"L" Limit - opens on the rise in temp

"S" Switch

"3" Number of terminals

"135" Opening temperature
