Installation Question
#1

We just bought a new gas oven to replace an electric one. The house we own (only a month in) is 100 years old, and the gas lines are easily accessed in the basement below the kitchen. Is the installation something I can do myself, or do I need to call someone out? Theres currently no gas line running to the kitchen.

Hello & Welcome Rob G.
As a Do-It-Yourself project, for all intensive purposes, tapping into an existing gas line and installing another line & extending it to another location may or may not be an easy task.
Much depends on having the proper piping tools, your own personal mechanical skills and abilities, potential and unknown or unseen difficulties and local codes to consider.
Personally, I do not suggest or recommend that the do-it-yourself person who's skills and abilities are unknown to me attempt this type of project.
Gas line installations, inside the confines of the home and especially behind walls and other confined areas, are projects that are best left to the plumbing professionals.
Without my personally evaluating the job and considering all the factors involved, it's far to difficult to offer you an exact answer.
Suggestions:
Check local codes in your area. Evaluate your abilities, potential job difficulties, possibilities of successfully completing the project without the help of another knowledgeable experienced person to assist you if need be.
Considerations:
Since your on the job site, only you can evaluate the proposed project & possible difficulties etc first hand. Know the risk factors of working with gas and consider hiring a professional for safety and peace of mind.
