Oven Odors

Unusual Odor AMANA range
I have an AMANA self-cleaning range that is about 10 years old.
After a recent self-cleaning cycle, it has developed an unusual odor during preheating. It almost smells like some cleaning solvent was used in it. It isn't at all gas smelling. It has a slightly irritating quality to one's nose and eyes. The oven preheats and then the odor disappears. I'm thinking about running a longer self-cleaning in case it didn't clean thoroughly. I appreciate any help.

Hello K Zauner. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
The described odor is not likely a result of the self cleaning cycle. The description indicates incomplete combustion of the gas. There may be a restriction of air flow, like aluminum foil on the racks or plates or something impinging {in contact} the burner flames.
When the flames charactoristics are altered by anything or something that changes in the burner compartment, incomplete combustion happens.
The result is aldyhides and carbon monoxides are produced. These byproducts of incomplete combustion cause the symptoms described.
You have to retrace the steps you have taken both before the cleaning cycle was started and after it completed. Anything you may have done to clean the oven, prepare to clean it or after it finished cleaning may have caused the problem.
A plate, panel or other object which is not replaced correctly, as an example, may be effecting the air flow in or out of the compartments. The useage of foil on racks causes this problem.
Check everything and be sure everything is now the same as it was prior to the problem developing. Not likely to be a burner or gas related problem based solely upon your desciption.
