Gas Dryer stops prematurely

After about 40 minites on the regular (low heat) setting the dryer stops & you must wait about 30 minites for it to cool down enough to reset . I have already made sure the exhaust paths are clear .

Hello Joe. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

If the dryer stops running always at exactly 40 minutes and does not restart when you attempt to do so as you normally do, it is possible the motor is overheating. When that happens, the high temp turns the motor off until it cools down.

If the dryer does this stopping at random times, it is possible the door safety cutoff switch is defective and or the door is not fully closing to keep the switches button fully depressed.

Another possiblity is the timer. Test it by using another temperature setting and or cycle out of the low heat setting. If the dryer works correctly, the low heat section of the timer may be defective.

If the dryer has optional selection switches, anyone of those may also effect that cycle and or be causing the problem.
