hot H2O tank not lighting

I have a Ruud with an electronic ignitor. I just replaced the ceramic ignitor and all was working well for a couple of weeks, but now only the ignitor glows and there is no release for the gas to ignite. Any suggestions?

Hello: cstew32

A few possible causes could be a defective solenoid in the gas valve or a safety device which keeps the gas valve shut down. One of the safety devices may be a power vent damper valve that does not open or does not open fully.

Would be a good idea to watch the chain of events the unit goes through from the time the hot surface ignitor begins to glow to the time it reaches full glow.

During that time frame other events are happening. One of which is the opening of the damper valve in the flue. Check all electircal wire connections between the power vent damper unit and the controls. A loose connection or a poor connection can cause a problem.

Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers if you stop in at the store. The info will help to determine the possible problem causes.

An excellent source for original replacement parts is your local retail appliance parts store. Appliance parts dealers stock replacement parts for all appliances. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

Be sure the appliance is electrically turned off before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever a repair includes any connection of a gas part.
