gas dryer runs, no heat

I have a whirlpool gas dryer model # LGR5636EQ3 it ran great until last night when it ran all night with no heat. There is not access panel on this model to remove to see if the flame is glowing or not you can remove the front panel, but prepare yourself to catch the drum which will fall off and you can remove the back panel but there is no way to see if the gas is even getting to the burner any suggestions??? Thank you

Hello Carol. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Some models do not have any front access panel to view the burner. Remove the back access panel. Turn on the dryer and note if you see a glowing bright yellow light to indicate if the hot surface ignitor is glowing.

If you cannot see any glowing light at first start up, you will need to gain access to the burner assembly to remove and replace the glowing hot surface ignitor.

Some models are built without front trap door access. Which means the above method has to be used. Once it can be varified the ignitor is not glowing, replacing it usually solves the problem.

Typical of these models to gain access having to disassemble and remove the entire front panel. Also the drum falling out of the front support bracket.

However, there are some positives to having to remove the front apnel. It does allow for inspection of the other parts and most likely cleaning the entire interior of the cabinet...

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. They will need the make, model and serial numbers.

Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and problem resolving matters. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever a repair includes any connection of a gas part.

Additional Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes, solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, schematics, downloadable repair and or owners manuals which may be available online.attempting any repairs.

Read the existing questions on the subject of dryers that do not heat. Doing so will provide you with answers to some additional questions you might have. Also provide information on how to diagnose and resolve the problem.

I bought and replaced the ignitor coil and there is no glowing or heat still, any more ideas. We carefully installed the ignitor coil as it is very fragile we read all of the installation instructions and followed them. But still with no avail it does not work.

Dryer not heating

Carol,

Did you ever get your dryer working?. I have the same problem with a Kenmore model #76902692 and have also replaced the ignitor with no luck.

Regards,

John

Hello: Carol and John

Since you both have already replaced the glow coil, the gas valve may be defective. Below are almost all the additional possibilities which can cause dryer no heating conditions you both are describing. Plenty of possibilities to check into.

Defective Gas Valve:
Remove entire unit as an assembly. Take the entire assembly to your local appliance parts store for testing. Gas valves are not repairable. Replacement is the only option if defective.

CAUTION: Do Not attempt to repair the gas valve! This is a non repairable item!

Dryers with touch pad controls use electronic computerized circuit boards. The entire circuit board could be removed and taken to the local appliance parts dealer for testing and or replacement.

Flame Sensor:
This part is located on the burner housing. If it's defective, it will cause the glow coil to not function or cause the problem your discribing. You can test this part with a continuity tester or an ohm meter. Do not soley rely on this test to prove the part is functioning correctly. The only proof positive method to be sure the part is functioning correctly, is to carefully remove the part and have the local appliance parts store person do the testing.

A Fuseable Link:
Check for continuity across this part. It will be located in the exhausts venting system prior to the discharge outlet. If there is no continuity, replace the part. Not all dryers have this part.

Defective Solenoids:
There are two...both are on top of the gas valve.
Solenoids also supply voltage to the glow coil and are part of the electrical loop.

You'll need to remove them from the top of the gas valve by removing the entire gas valve assembly first. Take them off the gas valve body by removing the holddown cover plate or take the entire gas valve unit to your local appliance parts store and have the entire assembly and parts tested.

Defective Gas Valve:
Remove entire unit as an assembly. Take the entire assembly to your local appliance parts store for testing. Gas valves are not repairable. Replacement is the only option if defective.

It's always possible there is another defective part or switch that is in line electrically between the timer and the glow coil that is defective, incorrectly set, etc. and not allowing current to flow through the entire circuit. You may also need to verify if there is electrical continuity through the entire wiring system.

Be sure to unplug the power first. Each wire should be checked through it's entire length. Check each electrical connection, terminal and junction connection. Also check for loose wires between the glow coil, gas valve and every switch.

The do-it-yourself person can do electrical tests and continuity tests on several of the parts often used in dryers. However, neither of these tests will provide proof positive the part being tested is actually functioning correctly. Do not rely solely on either test.

Keep in mind, that the only positive proof any part is functioning correctly, is to carefully remove the part or parts you suspect to be the potential culprit, and have the local appliance parts store person test parts to help make the final determination.

Suggestion:
Read the manufacturers online web site for additional product problem solving information. Read the existing questions within this forum pertaining to dryers which do not heat.

Lightbulb gas dryer no heat response

Hello,

I recently had the same problem with the same Whirlpool dryer (lgr5636eq3). I followed your lead and replaced the ignitor with no luck. There is a thermal fuse located in the exhaust assembly prior to the discharge outlet. It is in clear view and easily accessed by removing the rear panel. I simply checked for continuity with an ohm meter. The fuse was fried; I replaced it and all is well again. The part number is 3392519 and cost between 12 and 15 bucks.

I found troubleshooting easier with printable exploded diagrams from www.appliancepartspros.com.

Thanks for your help
